Austin Fastest Growing City according to CNN Money

Not really news to local residents who can feel the surge in growth from the competitive job market to the ever increasing traffic on its freeways – CNN Money lists Austin, Texas atop its recent rankings of fastest growing cities in the U.S.  The data used charts population growth between July 2012 and July 2013 and shows the Austin metro area grew by 2.6 percent, or 47,941 to a population of 1.9 million residents.

It has also attracted a number of big tech companies — Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500), Google (GOOAV), Facebook (FB, Fortune 500), Intel (INTC, Fortune 500) — looking to recruit young talent.

In January, the city’s unemployment rate fell to 4.7%, the lowest of any metro area with a population of one million or more.
